Branding: Where are you at

Your LinkedIn profile should reflect who you’re becoming - not just where you’ve been.

If you’ve heard Chappell Roan’s viral anthem Pink Pony Club, you know it’s all about stepping into a new version of yourself, even if it means leaving behind the familiar. That’s a feeling so many job seekers know well.

Embracing a new or more holistic brand is an all-too-common challenge for those ready to announce a career change on LinkedIn.

Too often, we limit our LinkedIn presence to our current job title, when in reality we are so much more than where we last worked. The best and most optimised profiles don’t just list experience - they tell a story, signal ambition, and open doors.

So, how do you build a LinkedIn profile that works for you (even if you’re between roles)?

✔️ Your Headline = More Than a Job Title

  • Use it to showcase what you do best and where you're heading. Example: "Marketing Leader | Storytelling for Impact | Helping Brands Connect & Convert"

✔️ Your About Section = Your Story, Not Just a Summary

  • Share what drives you, key career moments, and what’s next. Make it engaging and readable (short paragraphs, bullet points).

✔️ Your Activity = Your Visibility

  • Comment on posts from industry leaders, share insights and engage with content that aligns with your expertise and interests.

✔️ Your Profile = A Magnet for Opportunity

  • Are recruiters and hiring managers finding you? Optimise your profile with keywords from job descriptions in your field.

Stepping into a new opportunity like I did starting my consulting business recently, takes courage, but owning your story online makes the transition easier. Your LinkedIn should work for you, even when you’re not actively searching.

About me: I’ve been working in branding and corporate communication for over 30 years.  In that time I’ve optimised over 1000 LinkedIn profiles, along the way working with LinkedIn superstars like @Ashlyn Rodriguez.

My goal is to share my experience in getting your brand authentically aligned to your #pinkponyclub.

Time to share: So, what’s one change you’ve made to your LinkedIn profile that’s helped you attract the right opportunities? Let’s hear it! ⬇️
